According to Lao Tzu, Dao, or The Way, transforms and differentiate by “giving birth” as Dao begets one, one begets two, and two, then, begets three, which becomes the universe of all things. The power of creating life force is the nature of Dao and also us, humans. As musicians, we unceasingly create structures with sonic matter and our consciousness.
2 begets 3 is of two individual musicians on two pianos, crashing, crossing, accompanying each other as one of the two voices occasionally appears altogether, making it three.

Eunhye Jeong and Noa Fort met at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity (Canada) in summer 2017; this 5 track album is a recording of their first musical meeting. They decided to record two hours of improvised music, even though they have never played together before.
Eunhye and Noa wish to extend their gratitude to the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity for their generosity and endless support of the arts and artists.

Note on Track 5:
Gal-gga-bu-da is a song from Chunhyang-ga, one of 12 original Pansori repertories. Pansori is a genre of narrative music of Korea that is dramatically and vigorously performed by a vocalist usually accompanied by a drummer, Gosu. Eunhye studied Pansori from master Il-dong Bae, and she drew the emotional elements and the inner-workings of Pansori vocalization with Noa’s lyrical interplay in this recording.
